What do I know – seeing through the eyes of others

How do you feel when you receive a compliment? If you’re like me, more often than not, you cringe. Why? Because they’re seeing something wonderful that you’ve failed to recognize. But after years of self-deprecation, I’m learning to see “through the eyes of others” and be grateful for what they recognized in me that I didn’t know existed.

How do you handle compliments? Especially when they don’t resonate. I’d love to know.

What do I know – about loving them through it.

I’m developing new content but it’s been tricky with my role as “Grammie” these past 2 months in Austin. My daughter, Lauren, gave birth to a precious baby boy, with another 20-month-old boy needing just as much attention. But as I was going through my archives, I found this story that I feel is even more relevant today than when posted two years ago.

We’ve all had difficult people in our lives who may not be easy to love. Sometimes they’re a family member. Often […]

What do I know – about asking for help

As the only girl in a family of four kids, I learned early to do things on my own and became fiercely independent. But as time marched on, I found this to be a detriment at times. We’re not meant to walk this earth alone. We’re meant to help one another, and accept help as well. How much easier would my life have been if I just asked when I needed assistance.

When have you sat isolated, besides with COVID19, where your life could have […]

What do I know – about being brave

The Oxford Dictionary defines bravery as – ““Ready to face and endure danger or pain, showing courage.”

How often are we called upon to be brave in our lives Each day has its own set of unknowns as to whether we’ll be successful in our endeavors or not. But the one area I’ve found where you really need it is in allowing yourself to love. Being vulnerable leaves us wide open for pain down the road. But without our hearts open for love, our […]

For Both of Us

Time with author’s grandsons

Long ago, Betty Davis said, “Old age ain’t no place for sissies.” I remember giggling when I first heard it, but now I understand how true that statement is. Despite feeling thirty-five in my mind, my body begs to differ as I struggle to move, joints riddled with arthritis. Before slowly crawling out of bed each morning, I first must stretch my limbs in all directions. Only then can I make it to the bathroom in a timely manner.

But recently, I […]

What do I know? – about fear

All things contain energy – including money. Long ago, I lived in so much fear over not having enough. But as the years unraveled, I somehow, even in the lowest times, got all the bills paid. It was then I realized, money will come and it will go, but where I wanted to put my energy was in my love – for family, friends, nature, and just plain life.

We’re coming out of the pandemic, slowly. Let’s not let fear ruin our immune system (which […]
